AUCA 2024 Annual Awards Ceremony Held in Cornell China Center

Beijing, February 2024 — The AUCA Annual Awards Ceremony and Holiday Mixer took place at the Cornell China Center in Beijing, marking a successful start to the Year of the Dragon.

Beijing, February 2024 — The AUCA Annual Awards Ceremony and Holiday Mixer took place at the Cornell China Center in Beijing, marking a successful start to the Year of the Dragon. Nearly a hundred representatives from AUCA member institutions, high schools, universities, government and corporate partners gathered to reflect on the achievements of 2023 and look ahead to 2024. The inaugural AUCA Annual Awards Ceremony was held in Shanghai in February 2023, and we are delighted to continue this tradition in Beijing this year, recognizing and celebrating the outstanding contributions of our members and partners to our community.

 

This year’s awards ceremony centered around the theme of “Sustainable Development in Education.” In a world facing unprecedented societal and environmental challenges, it is our collective responsibility as global educators to contribute our efforts toward solutions. Colleagues from the global education sector, along with government and corporate partners, came together to discuss and share best practices related to sustainable development in education. Initiatives were proposed to empower our students to make a positive impact on the world.

 

       

       

 

Forum on Sustainable Development in Education

The event was hosted by Elva Xia, Chair of AUCA Graduate Recruitment Committee and Director, Marketing and Recruitment at Northeastern University.

 

Peter Wen, Manager, Cornell in China, delivered the opening address.

 

Mr. Yamin Xu, Dean, Greater China Area, Smart City Expo World Congress |Tomorrow.City Institute, delivered the keynote speech. He introduced the core concepts and trends of sustainable development and explored its application value in future education and talent development. The dialogue highlighted the opportunities and challenges that global sustainable development narratives bring to our education system and talent cultivation models, aiming to seek new possibilities.

 

The first panel discussion, moderated by Phoebe You, AUCA Honorary Life President, Senior Director of China Gateway, The Ohio State University, featured distinguished guests including Percy Jiang, Director of College Counseling, Keystone Academy,Xu Li, Vice Dean for Administration, School of Design, Southern University of Science and Technology and Nan Liu,Shuimu Tsinghua Scholar, School of Life Sciences, Tsinghua University. The discussion revolved around the present and future of sustainable development in education. The panelists shared how universities and high schools are implementing the United Nations’ sustainable development goals and proposed initiatives from an educator’s perspective.

 

The second panel discussion focused on co-creating talent development and sustainable cooperation between academia and industry. Wenting Wu, Chair of AUCA Career Services Committee and Director of Employer Relations and China Career Services, University of Southern California, moderated this session. The panel featured Yingjie Gu, Director, Career Development Center, School of Economics and Management, Tsinghua University; Vivien Sun, HRVP, Huatai Securities and Yi Wang, Executive Director, Harvard Center Shanghai. The guests explored ways to enhance students’ abilities, adapt to changing times, and improve talent development and recruitment sustainably. They also discussed how to address technological advancements and industry uncertainties, helping students alleviate job-related stress and anxiety.

 

As a partner of AUCA, ETS has consistently worked to create international exchange and learning platforms for students, facilitate Sino-foreign partnerships in education, culture, technology, and other fields, and achieve substantial development. Sumin Lai, Director of Client Relations, ETS China, shared ETS’s efforts in sustainable education development.

 

d'Arcy Lunn, EiM Group Head of Sustainability and Global Citizenship, shared best practices, exploring how sustainable development can be interpreted from personal and practical perspectives. His insights provide educators and educational institutions with foundational concepts and ideas for sustainable development, along with relevant examples.

 

Appointment Ceremony

Jiashu Cheng, Executive Director of Stanford Center at Peking University, has accepted an invitation to serve as an advisor to AUCA.
