Shanghai-On the evening of May 13th, a networking event that gathered elites from the pharmaceutical industry and alumni who have returned from abroad was held at the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai.

Shanghai-On the evening of May 13th, a networking event that gathered elites from the pharmaceutical industry and alumni who have returned from abroad was held at the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai. The salon was co-hosted by the AUCA and Bristol Myers Squibb, a global leading biopharmaceutical company. Business executives and talent experts from Bristol Myers Squibb joined the returning alumni working in the pharmaceutical industry to discuss future development trends and share valuable experiences in talent cultivation and development strategies.

 

 

 

 

At the salon, nearly 50 alumni from various overseas universities gathered together, many of whom hold positions in well-known pharmaceutical companies both domestically and internationally, bringing a wealth of industry experience and professional knowledge. The event not only provided a rare opportunity for alumni to exchange ideas with peers but also built a direct dialogue bridge with industry experts.

 

 

The event was hosted by Zoe Lin from the Human Resources Department of Bristol Myers Squibb, with a welcome speech by Jessica Wu from the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai. 

 

Ms. Wenting Wu, Chair of AUCA Career Services Committee, Director of Employer Relations and China Career Services, University of Southern California, introduced AUCA first.

 

As the special partner of this salon, Bristol Myers Squibb invited executives and talent experts from their R&D and Commercial departments to attend the event. They shared the company’s latest developments and cutting-edge innovations in the pharmaceutical industry with the alumni, as well as engaged in in-depth discussions and exchanges on topics such as talent cultivation and career development.


Mr. Richard Buckley, Head of Talent Acquisition APAC for Bristol Myers Squibb, introduced the company’s development history starting from its vision, mission, and values.

 

Dr. Zhengying Zhu, Vice President and Head of China R&D for Bristol Myers Squibb, analyzed the significant changes that have occurred in China’s pharmaceutical industry in terms of market environment, policy environment, and competitive ecology over the past few years. As a company with over 150 years of history, Bristol Myers Squibb has always focused on innovation as its competitive edge. Guided by the “China 2030 Strategy”, the company will accelerate the introduction of more “First-in-Class” and “Best-in-Class” innovative products to China, benefiting more patients.

 

Mr. Pascal Qian, Head of Commercial Operations and Mavacamten at Bristol Myers Squibb China, shared that those in the pharmaceutical field need a sense of mission and passion. Bristol Myers Squibb first entered China in 1982, it established the Sino-American Shanghai Squibb Pharmaceuticals Ltd. (SASS), which is the first Sino-US pharmaceutical joint venture since China's reform and opening up. Throughout its history of 40 years in China, Bristol Myers Squibb has launched more than 40 innovative products and indications in China in disease areas such as oncology, hematology, virology and cardiovascular. To benefit more Chinese patients, the company is expanding its portfolio in China by strengthening and accelerating its internal pipeline, aims to become an innovation leader in China and from China.

 

During the roundtable discussion, Ms. Shirley Shao, Head of Human Resources at Bristol Myers Squibb China, and the guest speakers discussed topics such as talent market trend and empowerment in the pharmaceutical industry. In response to audience questions, they also provided insightful answers on how young talents can enhance their competitiveness in talent market and how to increase their influence within global teams during their career development.

In the networking session, alumni had the opportunity to engage in in-depth conversations with business executives and talent experts from Bristol Myers Squibb.
