International Exchange and Cooperation in Higher Education Seminar Successfully Held at Beijing Jiaotong University

On November 12, 2024, representatives of over 20 top universities from around the world, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, France, and Spain, visited Beijing Jiaotong University (BJTU) to attend the International Exchange and Cooperation in Higher Education Seminar co-hosted by AUCA, BJTU, and ETS.

On November 12, 2024, representatives of over 20 top universities from around the world, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, France, and Spain, visited Beijing Jiaotong University (BJTU) to attend the International Exchange and Cooperation in Higher Education Seminar co-hosted by AUCA, BJTU, and ETS. Organized by the Office of International Affairs of BJTU, representatives from overseas universities engaged in in-depth discussions with professors and faculty from various departments of BJTU.

 

The seminar was chaired by Tan Yuyan, Deputy Director of Office of International Affairs. Song Fei, the director of the office, delivered the opening remarks on behalf of BJTU. He emphasized that as a leading university with distinctive industry characteristics in the national "Double First-Class" initiative, BJTU places great importance on the role of international exchanges in talent cultivation and guiding the development of the university. He expressed hope that the seminar would provide a platform for attendees to foster substantive cooperation with high-level universities around the world.

 

Phoebe You, Senior Director of China Gateway at The Ohio State University and AUCA Honorary Life President, thanked BJTU for offering this opportunity for exchange and discussion, hoping that the event would enhance communication and understanding between Chinese and overseas universities and explore future cooperation opportunities.

 

Following this, Josh Cheng, Executive Director of the Stanford Center at Peking University and advisor to AUCA, and Charles Wang, Associate Vice President at the University of Arizona, delivered compelling keynote speeches. They shared advanced experiences and successful case studies from their respective institutions in promoting cultural, academic, and student exchanges between China and the United States, as well as internationalization and Sino-foreign cooperative education.

 

 

Tan Yuyan also presented on the recent developments at BJTU and key areas of international exchange work.

 

During the roundtable discussion, representatives from Chinese and overseas universities engaged in a productive exchange of experiences on two main themes: "Sino-foreign Cooperative Education Programs" and "Programs for Exchange in China". They collaboratively explored how to promote the high-quality development of cooperative education programs and facilitate the reciprocal flow between students and scholars.

 

Additionally, representatives from ETS shared insights based on GRE exam data, analyzing application trends for global graduate schools and discussing how ETS can support domestic universities in their internationalization efforts, providing valuable references and insights for the attendees.

 

 

As a supplementary activity to the seminar, an event titled "World Universities" was held in the afternoon, featuring representatives from 15 globally renowned universities, including Columbia University, University of Southern California, The Ohio State University, and Australian National University. Admissions officers were present to deliver engaging presentations about studying abroad and provided detailed answers and guidance on issues of concern to students.
